Geoff Kings parcel of land consists of ancient coastal heath land of around 800 acres; (about the size of New Yorks Central Park). It is a paradise for the creatures that inhabited this rugged coastline long before humans first stepped out of Africa. Kings Run has been in Geoffs familys hands since 1880 where it was first used as a holding area for cattle on their way to the West Coast mining towns and later as a winter run off block for their breeding females.The property now has a conservation covenant over areas of the land aimed at protecting the archaeological and natural values long into the future.

Kings Run is in the far North West of Tasmania.The western boundary is the Southern Ocean that pounds a rugged foreshore studded with quartzite outcrops and an abundance of shorebirds. Inland, heath land and low eucalyptus containing rare flora helps support a rich variety of birdlife including many of Tasmanias endemic species. The rare Orange Bellied Parrot migrates through the property in autumn and spring.The main feature of Kings Run is its nocturnal wildlife. The marsupial lawn is grazed by large numbers of wallaby as well as wombat and bandicoot. These animals in turn support healthy populations of the worlds largest carnivorous marsupials Tasmanian Devils and Spot Tail Quolls. With the co-operation of the Tasmanian Nature Conservation Service Geoff King has developed a method of viewing the Tasmanian Devil in the wild.The Devils traverse the sandy tracks on the property searching for their nightly food. A scent trail leads to a rustic fishermans shack where you can view the Devils that sometimes arrive within an hour of sunset. The Devils extraordinary senses of smell and hearing do not detect the guests watching in candlelight through a window as the animals feed on relocated road kill. A restaurant where the Tasmanian Devil feels safe to eat. Feeding is strictly regulated with a limit on the amount of food and tour frequency to avoid habituating the animals. A soft outside light allows guests to see a range of Devil behaviour and a simple sound system brings the raucous sounds of feeding Devils inside the hide.

Kings Run Tours take place in a unique setting of natural beauty and ancient archaeology; a living museum of things rare and threatened. The tour begins an hour prior to sunset.The duration of the tour is about 4 hours; Tasmanian Devils can appear as early as an hour after sunset. Tours operate all year round but can only be held 5 nights out of every fortnight and no more than 3 nights in a row.Warm clothes and sturdy footwear are appropriate for this experience as guests are taken on a walk thru the landscape.Please make sure to book well in advance.Kings Run hosts visitors from all over the globe, as the work being carried out by Geoff King attracts world-wide attention.It is important to note that the airports of Burnie and Launceston are closest; Hobart is 6 hours away by car.Transport to the hide is provided with pickups from accommodation at Marrawah and Arthur River or at a designated meeting place near the property.Group sizes of up to 10 can be accommodated. Families with young children and babies are welcome and when possible given a private tour.The viewing place, the hide, is a rustic fishermans shack with limited amenities. Apart from your appropriate attire and a wood heater the only comforts provided are basic kitchen chairs. Most people stand whilst viewing the wildlife. The hide is powered by candles which provide just enough light to see your way around the shack. Light snacks and fluids are provided.There is a porta-loo on site.
